Abstract
Quadrupole mass spectrometer is one of the important instruments for physics experiment teaching in colleges.A numerical simulation code based on the Python language was developed to simulate the trajectories of ions in quadrupole mass spectrometers.The code could simulate the trajectories of ions in quadrupole mass spectrometer under various kinds of conditions e.g.with different DC voltage U,radio frequency voltage Ve radio frequency voltage frequency w,and the ion’s charge-to-mass ratio m/z.The obtained ions’trajectories could be presented in form of images or animations to help students understanding the principle of quadrupole mass spectrometry better and enhancing the students’interest during the teaching process. In addition, this work lays the foundation for the implementation of teaching simulation experiments on the quadrupole mass spectrometry.
