Abstract The combined method of aluminum trichloride and D-galactose was used to establish Alzheimer's disease (AD) model in rats and to study the therapeutic effect of ginsenoside and Polygala saponins on AD rats. The effects of the compatibility of ginsenosides and Polygala saponins on spatial cognitive ability, memory acquisition and memory consolidation of AD rats were evaluated by Morris water maze experiment and passive avoidance platform experiment. The activity of acetylcholinesterase (AchE) in serum and brain tissue, and the effects of Panax ginsenoside and Polygala saponins on the activity of AchE in AD rats and the antioxidant capacity were evaluated by the level of malondialdehyde, catalase, total superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. The results showed that the compatibility of ginsenoside and Polygala saponins could effectively improve the spatial cognitive ability, memory acquisition and memory consolidation of AD model rats, and had the effect of treating AD. Its therapeutic effect on AD is related to reducing AchE activity and resisting oxidative damage caused by free radicals.
